Arrrrgg Curb find, there then gone

I was just contacted by a guy who was given a 1914 Harley from his wifes dad... wait for it..... he put it on the curb for pick-up today, as he has no interest.

He says he thinks he knows who grabbed it and will see if I can have it, dang it, sometimes so close.
Not likely I say, but.......

Did you see the Crocker on east Los Angeles Craigslist this past Sunday morning? Ad said it was a Crocket, then was corrected to Crocker.... asking $500.00.

I assume that the Crocket/Crocker story is someones April fools joke.

So Niteowl did the 14 go scrap - God forbid or didn't you find out.

Twenty Five years ago or so when I still used to occasionally stop by the taverns, I stopped in there one night and talked to one of the regulars who did odd jobs and scrapped iron sometimes for beer money. I had told him many times that if he ever run across any motorcycles that I would buy them regardless of make or vintage. Well, he got to talking about a load of tin barn siding that he had hauled the previous week and then commented that he had to throw an old Harley motorcycle up on top to help keep the tin from blowing around. After considerable talk I asked him how he know it was a Harley and he said 'that's what the decal on the tank said' and then he said he did not think it was the original motor because somebody had welded some 'little cup things' into the right tank to get more motor clearance.

It doesn't take much of a motorcycle guy to figure out the vintage of this thing. His last words to me as a I walked out in disgust were 'Jerry, you would not have wanted this bike because it was junk'.

When I was a kid I knew a guy named Chriswell who had more motorcycles than you could count. His business was renting them for movies and television. One day he was pushing belt drive bikes out of the barn and stacking them on the curb. He said they were too old and nobody wanted to rent them anymore. If I only knew then what I know now,,,,
