      Dear Rashd, Harley had earlier taken the AMA production bike speed record at Muroc with an early 33VLD cranked up to 104 mph. There is a picture of this allegedly stock bike in the August 1933 Enthusiast announcing the 1934 models. Jim Underwood is pictured on the bike, which has had the front mudguard removed but still carries the rear one, 1932 headlight, horn, toolbox and taillight. I agree 'converted' probably means VLH stroker flywheels and a rebore, which usually ends up around 82/83 cubic inches capacity. Those bikes must also have had really tall gearing.

            Dear Louie, I'm still struggling to match what Harley did in 1932. My '34 was electronically timed at 103 mph about ten years ago, since when it's been bored and stroked to about 82 cubic inches, fitted with aluminium heads, a bobber seat and a four speed gearbox. I'm waiting for the warmer weather and to find a long enough timed run to see what she'll do this time.
