  • Do I have 1st issue of Antique Motorcycles Magazine ???

I got a bunch of Antique Motorcycles Magazines at an estate sale. The Top & bottom of the cover is Blue & it says Vol 1 No 1 SPRING ISSUE, but no year.
The main cover picture is "The beautifully restored ACE FOUR belonging to Howard Forrest of California".
I have most of the issues up to 1968 but the vol #'s don't always match the years.
No back cover on this issue like the rest of the mags.

    Just wondering what I have

Who was the Editor, and the other officers, for that matter? A way to pin down the year. 'Probably is the first one, tho.

56servi: I believe Vol.1#1 is the first AMC publication in magazine form. I also have that one. Vol. 1 #2 is the summer issue 1960 so Vol. 1 #1 would probably be spring 1960. Before that they had "bulletins" which were about 6 pages with a staple in the top left corner. The earliest one I have is Bulletin No. 4-56. The date on it is July 12, 1956. I also have some that are not stapled starting with 1958-Bulletin#1. Hope this helps. Tom #381

Years ago I bought the set of CD's with all (?) the club bulletins and magazines. Here is a (bad) copy of the first bulletin listed....Bulletin #1 1959.

OK I'm awake now and have found the first flyer that was sent out with no date on it, early 1954? And the very first bulletin date April 16, 1954, it was 10 pages long. Sorry for the first couple of posts that were wrong.

You have the first of the "New Bulletin" Antique Motorcycles quarterly. Louis Lichva ( i do remember Lou, the stalwart of the Empire chapter later on, and a great ACE enthusiast) was Secretary and Editor. There was an earlier bulletin of some sort, but I have never seen an example of it. Presumably, from what Lou wrote the earlier one was not as nicely turned out as the new one, which was the Spring issue for 1960

Volume 1 of Antique Motorcycle ran 8 issues through 1960 and 1961, 4 issues per year. Vol. 2 ran through 1962, Vol.3 presumably through 1963 and Vol. 4 begins with V4. #1 in spring of 1964, running through 1965. By Vol. 2 #4 Art Sigal ( I remember Art, a real gentleman,) the president was asking for more material for the 'Antique Motorcycle' as Ken Jones, the Editor, Ted Hodgdon and Emmett Moore (both founders) were apparently contributing most or all of the copy. Jim Lucas, the Treasurer, was calling on members to ante up the $4 membership fee as the AMC was obviously struggling financially as well.

Envelops are addressed to Mr Earl Maiden Pontiac Michigan. I have a lot of his old manuals & paperwork
He was #15 on the May 22 1954 original membership list
