Harley Hillclimber DAH at Davenport

I saw some pictures of a DAH that was at Davenport. Does anyone know who brought it there and was it for sale? Thanks for any info. My dream bike.

seller said less if you pay cash. he also said he has two years till retirement so no real hurry to sell. with the exchange rate you may get for 100,000 euro.

Yes he rode them, here’s what it looked like when Harry had it. The bottom pic is Harry airing out one of his CAC singles.

it's a whole different beast now.front end is completely changed.bars and forks.

In those days it was just an old race bike, the ex Molenaar bike that sold in Vegas for $165,000. (see amca magazine) was probably sold by Harry for less than $10 g’s. As you can see by the DAH pics as raced or restored are two different things.

You nailed it Dave. The restored machine is stunning but the "as raced" part of it is gone forever.

It is really indistinguishable from those that R.L. Jones from Lyman, SC built or restored. The lesson is - they are only original once and it should be a crime to restore such a bike, all the history is lost. Unless, of course, they are beyond any reasonable "refurbishment".

Thanks for sharing that picture. That DAH looked bad ass with the hollywood bars and the blue tanks. Lots of character. Then again, any DAH has character in my book.

are you sure those two are the same bike? the top fork casting on the blue bike is a correct DAH hillclimber casting, but the blue bikes fork isn't curved out with the inverted rockers. its hard to believe someone would go that far in a restoration. did all DAH's come with the inverted rocker fork? of course molenaar could have probably ordered any way he wanted.

Here is a link to R.L.'s website (which most of you guys are aware of, but just in case...). Interestingly, there is a photo of a DAH exactly like the one being discussed. Also, some history on Clarence Pearce's DAH. He was the owner of Greenville Harley-Davidson back in the day.

not all forks are the same on the dah. all saw one bike that had a double down tube. harley may have only made about two dozen they could all be different.the one above looks like the whole front end was changed
