Badger, it looks like there was stiff competition for motorcycle sales in 1914. I have the May 1915 Popular Mechanix that is loaded with motorcycle ads. Here's a couple from Milwaukee. HD ad -producer for almost 14 years is funny

Quick question... my dad has a bunch of old Popular Mechanics magazines... and I was wondering do you CUT OUT the ads? OR just leave them in the magazines? I kind of hate to cut up the old books.

Most don't have much value, I paid 25 cents or less for most of my magazines, the 1915 was about $4. I made this 25 years ago when I built my '49. Made the mistake of taking it to Davenport to have next to my bike display. It got moisture inside & I managed to crack the glass.

I love old 'Popular Mechanics' magazines and have collected a fair number of them over the years. Personally, I won't cut a page out of a P-M magazine as I think it ruins it. That magazine is essential reading material in the tiled room of any fart. . . I mean smart feller.

Circa 1921-1922 they were actually telling the correct story for awhile. In the archives of the H-D Museum there's a page from a three ring binder with motorcycle and sidecar production numbers for each year beginning with 1902-03 through estimated production numbers for 1920 & 1921. 1902-03 shows one motorcycle produced (the diamond frame built by Walter, Arthur and Wm Harley) then 1904 shows two motorcycles produced which is corroborated in Milwaukee newspaper articles and further by the following 1921 dated H-D factory advertisement.
