The MOCO didn't corner the market, Steve!

I have a half-dozen Cycle-Tow pics; Why not ride back and forth on two wheels?

Interesting photo Tom. This looks like a hybrid of the Indian Dispatch? Assuming two additional rear wheels are not driven and that they raise the normal rear wheel when they are dropped into place making it more like a trailer? I wonder if the front hitch is the same as that used on the Indian Dispatch?

So I am sticking with the interesting subject of the Gypsy Tour and in this group of images the Old Orchard Beach Maine Gypsy Tour gathering. This is where the 100 mile motorcycle race was held before it moved to Lancoming, New Hampshire. This also ties into one of our earlier posts about Ted Edwards the Daytona Beach racer and Atlanta Indian Dealer from 1940 - 1950. Here are some images from this meet in 1937.

        The program cover

1937 In 1937, Old Orchard Beach, Maine, held a Gypsy Tour, in conjunction with its annual motorcycle race. The area had been running motorcycle races for many years prior to 1937, but the 1937 race was the first to include an officially sanctioned Gypsy Tour. (While the souvenir program advertises this Gypsy Tour as the 21st, it was referring to the National series of Gypsy Tours.) 100-Mile National Championship motorcycle racers on the beach at Old Orchard. The Hotel Vesper (1907-1984) is seen in the background. 1937 was the last year of National Championship racing at Old Orchard, as the race moved to Laconia the following year. Also, a list of 1937 racers from the above program.
Here are the racers from 1937's 21st Annual Gypsy Tour. Notice Ted Edwards racer #13 appears on the list from Portland. ME.

The Cycle-Tow was pretty universal, Mike!

          Cycle Tow6.jpg

Its curious that this seems to also be a single,

(I like how the necktie seems to distract the young lady away from his filthy coveralls.)

PS: I probably have a dozen Babe Tancrede pics, #1 on the competitors' list.
And a couple of #17 Frenchy Castonguay, and maybe Woodsie, too.

Talking about all these "Babe" pics, remember this is a family forum HaHaHa.

Well that photo gives me a better perspective of how it works. I guess if it was a service car of dispatch you'd have to disable the drive wheels right?

            • If that's a flat lens Motolamp on the Indian then that makes it a 1931/2 bike, a shade before the Harley Servicar was introduced. That looks like a 500 cc flathead engine, like the 1929-34 Harley C model which went in the small twin frame. On the Servicar it would surely be enough to put the bike in neutral and use a rigid tow bar behind the car.

Tueche Tom on the Babe being in the family way. Oh and very good idea to go down a list to find images of these folks from the Old Orchard Beach gang.

Sylvester Roper died on that steam-cycle, and possibly the same day that picture was taken. As I recall reading, he died of heart failure while riding.
