Originally posted by badger341931-1935 H-D Enthusiast covers featuring dear family friend Carl Griesbacher. The friendship shared among Carl, my G'pa Joe & his brother Alfred dated back to their grade school days. Carl was a career H-D factory inspector, my earliest documentation of Carl's employment at H-D is from 1923 when he would have been only 19 years old. Many family photos and even a 1950's home movie feature Carl and my grandparents at Wisconsin mc events. Carl was a longtime Milwaukee Motorcycle Club member and many time club officer, he is mentioned and pictured quite often in Herb Wagner's H-D 1930-1941 Revolutionary MC's book. Carl was also the most prolific winner of the MMC's Badger Derby tour of the woods, a 1930's 15 hour 400 mile endurance contest run through Wisconsin's toughest woods, water and sand. Carl never owned an automobile during his lifetime opting for sidecar outfits kept in a single car garage behind his home. After retirement he owned both BMW and Moto Guzzi sidecar outfits and in 1967 was a founding charter member and officer of the Wisconsin BMW Motorcycle Club. My one time only ride in a sidecar was with Carl when I was about 10 years old. I currently own three of Carl's Badger Derby winners trophies that accompany my G'pa Joe's 1934 winners trophy.Steve Swan
