You'll just have to google benefits of hot and cold performance values in high performance applications like i did Cotten. I didn't make this up, and have no prior knowledge/experience of either-or. This is all a guessing game over a shroud over a...Link/Scheb?

*P.s. Now...Is that snake oil Hot or Cold???

      Vipeing hot!

PS: C'mon, it was a sales pitch.
And a 25% horsepower increase is like adding up all the hop-ups in J.C. Whitney/Warshawski catalogs.

PPS: I better patent this manifold, huh!

Is this something you made?, it looks like it might work!

          Yes, Dave!

          It evolved slowly.

I cannot say the cooling fins made any difference.

Mercedes motors had these type of air cleaners well before they did the Viper.
Pull that massive plastic thing off the top & look at one sometime.
The theory is cold air forms droplets & hot air keeps the fuel in a mist.
I'm sure if there is anybody out there that does more tests than Cotton ,it is MB!

Luxury cars are out of my galaxy much less my zodiac, Duffey!

Not sure I understand the theory.

I'm certain, however, the best aircleaners are the ones that look like they are going fast just sitting there.

I remember these, street racers were always looking for an edge. Like you said, cold fuel is more dense, so more energy in the same volume of fuel.

I still don't get it, CJ!

How could it be below ambient without at least soaked canvas around it?

Spun aluminum is always cool otherwise.
My chop has nearly an entire kitchen canister set on it.

Is that your sink strainer on fast looking rocket air cleaner?

These cool cans are still used, mostly on drag cars.
The canister is filled with ice to cool down the fuel, which I don't think it does do a lot.
It is the air you need to cool to increase the amount of oxygen per unit volume.
More oxygen, more fuel, more power.

                        Ice makes some sense, Mick!

It still mystifies me how Rollie's shroud wouldn't just make it hotter.

                        Add beach ambient, too.

I'll take vaporization over raw volume, please.

                        PS: Nope, Tom!

                        That was somebody else's.

It may have been to prevent pulling in hot air from the front cylinder, as well as pulling in sand from the front wheel.

If we are worried about sand and salt, Folks,...

Why is he running an open 30.50" airhorn instead of the stock 'tear-drop' with a screen?

                            He's hiding somethin'.

                            Literature suggests it was a DLX110, for a "Y" manifold. Could'na been a "T", or it would'na set a record.

                            Or could it?

Golly I'm having a hard time with "pulling in air from the front head", Mick!

Can we assume we are talking about high speed duty?
Then the 'blow out the candle behind the bottle' phenomenon could warm the carb itself, perhaps,,, (Perhaps bad, perhaps good!), but the outboard intake seems spared to me.

The heavy potmetal carb body is quite a heat sink. (More so a bronze!)
By my experience, warming up a machine means all of it, to its optimum.
Race bikes don't have the luxury of a long ride to arrive.

                              Ain't buying the cooling thing a'tall;
                              The carb's already too cool.

Well that is me out of ideas.
It was obviously put there for some reason, whether it did anything or not is another question.
