It's a Scout. I'm not up on Scouts so the year is difficult to pinpoint. I had a 1924 Chief and it also had the external compression relief rod, (which you can see just behind the rear gas cap). I believe Indian changed that in '25 by running the rod through the tank. The most distinctive difference between a Scout, and Chief of that vintage is the front fender. . . And the size of engines; helluva' difference there

I played with the contrast and brightness a bit.
Makes some of the details easier to see.
Great old photo!! Your uncle/great uncle was a lucky guy to have such an amazing machine as a young 'un!
