Tom. I found this very old can of Hot Fuel Proof Dope. It is clear. I was wondering if I could paint a carburetor body with high heat paint then put this over it to protect from gasoline?

You can try, Chris!
I had failures with Aerogloss and some other model paints.
Sorry I forgot who tipped me off to https://sigmfg.com/IndexCatalog0809.html, but it has survived my immersion tests, and my choice for semi-gloss black. (Sadly, they do not offer Olive Drab. I already have a fuel-proof "aluminum".)
It could be more durable in other ways.
And I find I cannot apply it in bad weather.
I hate paint.

Beautiful can, Chris!
Is it yours, or an internet image 'snag'?

I simply stopped at a model Shop that had been in business since 1946 and asked for it. He said he only had one can of clear left and no other colors. So I snagged it.Be sure to visit;

The rumor I heard, Jim,..
Its the balsa that's been disappearing,.. into windmills.
Just a rumor, but it made me stock up on (ugh) paint before the craft industries that depend upon balsa suffer.

PS: It wasn't on the internet. So I believe it.
PPS: I would have snagged it in a heartbeat, too, Chris!
But only if it were at Midwest pricing...

That doesn't mean there isn't something better out there.
Or that ever-changing fuels may eat it someday.
Applying it is a learning curve I still haven't mastered.

An update on the 'windmill', thing, Folks,...
I read that recycling wind turbine blades is actually a problem, so they ain't balsa.
It wont be the last time I'm wrong,

I was wrong again already, Folks!
Wikipedia sez "Balsa wood is often used as a core material in composites; for example, the blades of many wind turbines are partly of balsa."
The rest is apparently 'fiberglass and resin', which as every bondomeister knows, is pretty heavy.
Although I hate paint, I learned moderate control of my airbrush (for carbs anyway..). What I cannot control is Illinois weather, which can blush the butyrate even on a beautiful day.

PS: I had to put a heating pad under the shop keyboard before it would connect with the cpu this morning, just like last year.
