Envious. The missus and I depart in the early am, over 1,100 miles to that rustic destination. -
Here is some important info for those of you coming to the road run in Colorado. I just rode parts of the route early this morning and discovered a bottleneck at the hotel.
On street parking is non existent at the Ameristar Hotel and Casino where we will be headquartered. They do have a nice parking garage and we have the entire top floor reserved for our group, with a large tent for cover. However, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE YOUR TRAILERS INTO THE PARKING GARAGE!!!!!!
As you approach Blackhawk from the south on Hwy 119, the Ameristar will be the first big hotel on your right, at the intersection of Richman St and Hwy 119. There is a traffic light at that intersection, turn right there. Go PAST the entrance to the parking garage a few hundred feet to the first right which is Silver Gulch Rd, it is paved, very steep but also very wide. Go up a bit and park your trailers on the side to unload bikes. Ride your bikes back down and into the parking garage then to the top floor. There is supposed to be a shuttle available from the hotel to the parking lot but I don't know the schedule, so you may have to hoof it back up to your truck. Drive up the road about .8 miles to the paved parking lot at the top of the road. secure your trailers here and drive your vehicle to the parking garage, assuming it will fit in the garage!

I just googled the hotel's street address. There is a street view showing the parking garage entrance, I don't think a pick up would fit in there...

Dang! Gonna have to lug my chairs and big arsed cooler on foot up to the party on the top deck, all at 9,500 ft above sea level. May bring scuba tanks for the extra oxygen needed for this flat lander.Comment

Here's the skinny on the garage, VPH had my hyperventilating at the thought of driving nearly 1,200 miles in a cargo van with no cruise control loaded with bikes and provisions only to be denied access to on site parking. If you google map the hotel you will be presented with over a hundred sundry pix of this facility some of which are puzzling, i.e., the valet parking entrance shows a clearance of 7'6" while the clearance is not visible or stated for the public entrance next door. This is the American west where everyone drives a by-God full size yank quad cab 4 wheel drive pickup and doesn't want to be scraping off snow when they stagger out of the casino and sure nuff if you scan down to the pic of a row of m/c's there is a quad cab in the background with plenty o space to the ceiling. A call out there revealed in fact the clearance is 9 ft, so at 8'6" we're in like Flynn!Comment

Howdy chaps,
On site. For practical puposes 7'4" is it, stock ride height crew cabs and conventional long wheelbase vans can access the garage to the top deck, no high tops and likely dualies with bed toppers.Comment

My wife and I hit clouds about 15 minutes north of Blackhawk on the way home Friday morning. Sorta like riding in dense fog at 15 miles an hour.

The following should give you a taste of this outstanding event until the member pix become available. http://www.craigpatterson.com/AMCAROADRUN Can honestly say it's been decades since we've had this luxurious hotel accommodations this inexpensively and once the overall parking situation figured out that roof top venue you'll see at Craig's site (complete with large tent and bar) unmatched in the 23 years we've been doing these. Same can be said for Guanella Pass the most spectacular I've crossed in the lower 48, ever, as both sides provided completely different riding experiences.Comment
