  • Spoke lights for front wheel info

    Greetings,
I am the current owner of a 48 FL my father purchased new.
He passed away years ago, but always mentioned that at one time he had a set of lights for the front wheel that attached to the spokes.
He did not recall what happened to them, he took them off stating they threw the wheel too far out of balance.
While looking in an old tool box from the estate, I came across what I believe is the setup.
I am posting pictures here of what I found, and am looking for any information about who made them, or any pictures of them in use.

The set-up consists of a cylinder with a brass/bronze barrel that the brush attached to the hub rides on and 3 bayonet bulb sockets that slip onto the spokes.

Looking forward to hearing if anyone has more info.

    Thanks
    Mark

That sure looks to me like the setup. The spacer with the brass rings replaces the OEM rightside wheel spacer and is actually a brush assembly to conduct current from the bike to the wheel. It looks like it might be complete minus the bulbs.

Thanks for the reply. I'm unable to find any other information. Were the lights just clear bulbs, or color/decorative? Who manufactured it. They must not have been very common. I believe he wired it in with the fender light.

I think there were numerous manufacturers of these. I used to have a bunch of misc parts to these and no 2 were the same. I think any 6v bulb that fit the socket would work.

You might try contacting The Seattle Cossacks Motorcycle Drill Team. I have seen similar spoke lights sets on some of their vintage Harley Davidsons they ride in their performances.
