  • WTB S&S carb setup for a panhead

    Title says it all.
    I'm looking for an S&S carb, and intake for my 65 panhead.
    E-mail, or PM me, include all details, and price in post.
    Thanks
    Jim

    You must be a gluten for punishment. A SU is a far better carb for a Panhead.

      I'm open to suggestions.
      If you think the SU is a better carb, Why?
      I've been running S&S E carbs on my shovelheads/panheads for quite a few years. After the initial set-up, I've never touched them again.
      I've got the Linkert on the 65 right now, I'm not impressed.

        I had a Panhead with the complete Rivera SU kit on it. It was the most trouble free, great performong carburetor I have ever had.

          I agree with Chris. If you must run an aftermarket carb on a pan, the SU rules. Been running them on two pans for the last 25 years. The easiest starting, the best gas mileage and the easiest to fix on the side of the road. The pro’s back then said it would never work on a big twin. They were wrong. The coolest thing I all ways loved was watching the frost ring build up around the dome when I was cooking up the NYS Thruway in a Autumn chill. Bob L

            I know S&S makes a lot of great Harley parts, but I have never understood the obsession with their carbs. Maybe a long time ago, in a far away land they were the best you could get, and they will work for speed, but other than that why? Sure, they aren't hard to set up, and I guess they are dependable, even though I don't know any modern carb that isn't. Gas mileage? Forgedaboudit! Smooth operation? Only if you have never used a vacuum carb to compare. Linkerts are better. At least they are cool. Just my feelings. Not to offend anyone.

                I may trade some other pan/servi-car parts, but the Linkert stay's here.

                      Mike;
                      I'm a trader, so no I don't have a problem with your offer, but there are somethings you just don't trade off.
