WANTED: Steering damper for 1947 Knucklehead (original)

I miss the whole steering damper for my 47F and I have been unsuccessful so far to find one.

Please let me know if somebody is willing to sell me this part.

Your photo of your bike clearly shows your steering damper in place. However your ride control is missing. In 1947 it was a hydraulic shock absorber.

Hi Chris! How are you doing?

I guess my bloody english is confusing everything! I meant the damper to increase friction during the rotation of the fork.

I just have the handle to set the friction on top of the handlebar and I may have also (not sure) the upper special nut where the before mentioned handle attaches. For sure I miss the long stem that runs inside the neck, the spring around that stem, the whole lower hardware with the anchor plate to the frame, friction discs, star spring and whatever I could be forgetting... (I never had one in my hands, I have also a 48FL which also misses the same damper).

The dampening system of the bike itself is effectively done by a Monroe. For me (but please apologize the English again), "Ride Control" was the device existing before the hydraulic Monroe with these two slotted friction plates at each side of the spring arrays of the front end... I understood this wrongly? This is not the so called "ride control"?

Good question, Chris!

The answer is "no idea"!!!

I guess some cosmetic funny arrange to keep the handle there...

Something is sure: no stem inside the neck...

I added some more pictures, maybe you can figure it out!

Check with the folks at olddude.com. And check your parts book, page 58. My steering damper rod and steering damper are original; all the other parts I got from Old Dude. It's bitchen and it's all correct.
It looks like your steering damper rod is cut off or something. It ain't right! Also check the yellow pages in Walneck's Classic Cycle magazine, some of the vendors there might have OEM parts for this assembly. Website: walnecks.com
