    29 rocker arm and tower

Looking for a 28-29 JD rocker tower and rocker arm . This is the arm with the .312 axle.

    Mike,
There is a guy in Germany that has the rocker arms.
    geloman.com I think.
The rocker towers are very hard to find for a 29, I am after a set myself.
    Good luck.
    Mick

How can you tell a 29 tower?

              Dan,
The rocker axle is 5/16. (.312) And the casting is beefier on a 29. Earlier ones have a 1/4” axle. I had JDH towers that have .312 axles , JDH castings leave more valve spring exposed and don’t have the oval “vents” like JD’s . Probably would have worked but made good trading material. Likely other variation throughout the years that senior members know about. I’m a rookie at this.

                Dan,
Below is a photo of 4 types of valve towers used on various J twins.
I think I have the years correct, but there is more experienced members who may comment.

The assembly on the left was used from about 1915 to 1923. The fitting on the end of the rocker shaft had a felt insert to wick oil into the shaft bushing.

The two towers in the middle were both used in the 1924-1928 range. Both have Alemite grease fittings directly on the rocker arm. The tower on the left has a rocker arm that has a small diameter seat for the pushrod end, the other has a large diameter end for the pushrod end.

I think the one on the right is an early 1928 JDH tower.

All these towers have 1/4" axles.

In late 1928 for the JDH, and 1929 for the J's, the axle size was increased to 5/16". These towers are different castings to accommodate the larger axles.
