  • Trying to get my '64 Panhead police bike back on the road.

I recently picked up a '64 Panhead. A former Mexican police bike. I'd originally planned on selling but have decided to keep it for a while and just clean it up. Sadly the tanks and fenders have been primered over the original paint by the used car lot in Calexico, CA that was selling it. It looks like they painted over the road grime. So at this point I am looking for some original paint white tanks and fenders. The tanks could also be black and white. 3.5 gallon tank shift with emblem mounts preferred. The certainly don't have to be flawless as the rest of this bike has been rode hard and put away wet . I know a lot of guys have old police stuff hangin' around. So if you have a tank or fender let me know. Mine are available as trading material. Nice straight original paint with primer sprayed on the outside.
I would also like to find a decent Kilometer speedometer for it. Even a decent speedo face would be appreciated.
I think I have enough police equipment here to get it back in shape. I can see I will be spending a lot of time with graffiti remover cleaning rattle can paint off the engine and transmission. Who paints Shovel heads and rocker boxes black anyway? Oh, Mexican police. .

I have a 62 FL former police bike that I am working on to bring back to a police bike.

Did you find those hand-lock releases yet?

    Looking forward to seeing yours.

I have a 62-65 speedo with the kilo face (reads 2 to 20). Looks pretty good but the silver center is starting to get dark specks in it. Just a regular speedo-doesn't say La Policia on it.
Not for sale but will trade for a comperable US model. My plan is to have it tuned up and replace the kilo face.
