Hi Barry, i just spotted this ad for a 1939 T100 Bronze head with...Crankcase, but i don't know if it is currently available? There is a contact number. Super Great price considering that the cylinder head alone sold on Bonhams back in April 2022 for over 3k. Good Luck.

Very nice looking '39 'Tiger' you have there Barry. I think the valanced fenders were only optioned for the USA? I have a '39 'Tiger' also, has the bronze head option~~here's a picture. Good Luck on the cylinder head & Crank! Also, please let me know how you made out. *Thank You.

What was the rationale for using bronze for a head? Advantages? I've heard cast iron was prone to cracking...? Aluminum not used yet? Because? (my 1937 International has a bronze head).

Hello Steve, correct, at the period, the cast iron heads were prone to cracking. I imagine like most companies, everyone was trying to get the jump on each other~hence using a bronze head for example. Also, a lot of manufacturers were putting out factory race motorcycles that anyone with the cash could purchase.
Although heavier and more expensive than cast, another advantage of bronze was a more even heat distribution with a superior ability to carry away heat from the combustion chamber and valve heads, and provide a leaner fuel mixture also~~not to mention the 'cool looking' factor.
