SAM_1412.JPG These are two tanks for different ranges of years--I think. I bought them from Holland thinking they were 741 tanks and realized I pulled the trigger too soon and did not look close enough at the photos posted by the shop. The right tank appears to be in better shape on the outside and inside. The left tank appears to have had something added to the surface that looks like Liquid Metal. There are smears of a substance that have hardened to the consistency of metal. The right tank has a metal plate inside with four bolts attached, though it must have come loose and is rattling around inside the tank, maybe for a plug to prevent corrosion during storage. Don't know.
Please send a PM if you think you can save them and have an interest. Make an offer. At this point I'm just trying to get back as much as possible.

Here's the bottom, of the right tank.

I am willing to trade even for 741B motorcycle parts.

Thanks, Paul. The reason I put them up is because they are not 741 tanks.

I have wondered at times if someone experienced and with the proper equipment could change the tank mounts from a Chief or Scout to fit a 741:

              Picture1.jpg Picture 1-1.jpg Paul,
I found one that does not have the split, but all the other features look like a 741 tank.
              What do you think?

I understand, from a functional point-of-view. I wanted to build a 741 pretty much from all original parts, with the exception of fasteners. Greer's and other sources most likely at that point.
I like the idea of the Chout. Never tried to build one even though the books on Indians don't say a whole lot about these attempts to merge models and years. The wide range of applicability of some parts created both a hornet's nest and an interesting situation; what to modify when parts don't function or fit and what to choose as major components when there is so much to choose from. I heard once they often put the Sport Scout motor in a Chief frame. That makes sense for stability.

I'm still trying to find an original left side tank in good condition under five.

741 NOS Fuel Tanks JW REF 2.jpg Why does the left side have an indentation? The small photo is an NOS set and the second is a used set.

The indentation on the left tank is for the speedometer cable.

You mean just to coil the slack there?
I have never assembled one before, so my questions are from the stand-point of only seeing the books and a few parts.
                        Thanks.

I was refering to the rear indent. The front one at the top I do not know what it is for.
