Picking apart has nothing to do with it. As you may suspect the 1936 EL's went through a lot of changes. Most parts went through at least three design changes. For someone gathering parts for a '36 knowing if the engine number is compatible with the other parts they have gathered is important. I don't understand your thinking. How can some pick apart a number?

not to long ago chris you had found some one selling a set of case's on ebay I don't remember the year but I knew who had them listed (my friend Dave M)and you decided they where bad # from a bad photo ... I realize there's a lot of shady numbers out there and these don't fit in that category
if you want to talk to the owner send your phone # and I will call him and relay the info.its a real 36 motor in real nice shape and tranny that's even better, he had it at the fla meet and was showing it to a couple of guys trying to set up a trade.its not for sale just trade only
