Harley-Davidson Sidecars, History and Restoration, 1914-1935

Harley-Davidson Sidecars is the only book in publication that covers the history and restoration of Harley-Davidson sidecars for the period 1914-1935.

Although it is one year past your book I have a question. What did the 1936 EL do for a parking brake? The saw tooth brake lock didn't appear til 1937.

The 36 EL used Brake Lock 6801-30, which is the same one that was used on 1930-36 VL's.

Let me add to this... It would be the same one used on 1932-36 VL's since the handle was dog-legged beginning in 1932. Same part number since it would retrofit 1930-31 VL's.

The lower is 1914-29, middle is 1930-31, and the upper is 1932-36.

Those are for VL. I am looking for EL. The first sawtooth lock that I can find appeared in 1937.

I can only confirm the VL's, looking at the parts book it appears it could have been used on the 1936 EL but I can't confirm that.

Ric, do you know if a 34-36 sidecar fender is different that the 36LE & up type?
I have a fender that doesn't fit right on a 48. it sits too high on top & at the rear.
