2 months ago there were 2 sets of 60's mufflers on Ebay and I posted the question on C-Mag; Do original mufflers have seams or not? 150 lookers and not 1 answer, pretty apathetic if you ask me. So I missed out on a set of original 60"s mufflers because no one would help- I no longer belong to that site.
Too bad you got no help. But even more sad is your sense of entitlement. It is someone else's fault you didn't get your part?? Unbelievable!!

        Hi RUB
I never looked at it like that, its a new perspective; A sense of entitlement.....

I am truly sorry to the 150 people I just offended and Expected them to share with a fellow enthusiast; Maybe I totally misunderstood the concept of this and the other forum, to learn and share.

Please forgive my ignorance and lack of understanding of how this forum truly works.

I guess from your perspective we should all HOARDE our knowledge and resources thus keeping new members from entering the hobby and this forum. We should not join the AMCA feeling Entitled to anything, especially help from fellow members. Sounds like a great group of people I would like to hang around with.

Again; I sincerely apologize to anyone I offended by posting my question and feeling entitled to an answer

Rub, I wish you only the best and hope you have a blessed day

Robbie is very forthcomming with his vast H-D knowledge, which I'm sure he acquired over many years with SELF sacrifice, and SELF determination. Part of getting help is knowing how to ask for it.

I've been mostly away from this site for much of this year due to an illness in the family. I have to say I'm a bit shocked at what I've been reading since I've finally had some time to spend on here. All kinds of snarky comments and infighting. Pretty sad since this is the one site I go to for knowledge and advice. I'm relatively new to the "antique" aspect of the motorcycle hobby so I'm still got an awful lot to learn and this site is my best teacher. It saddens me to see the bickering, backstabbing and just plain infantile behavior that sometimes runs rampant here. Seems like some of us need to re-evaluate how we say things on here (Chris for example) while others need to show a little patience and respect and put past issues behind them rather than continue to hold their personal 'court' on this forum.

Chris, you have a lot of knowledge to share and I appreciate it when you are able to lend some valuable insight about bikes or parts on here. However, you continue to instigate problems with what most on here view as an arrogant self serving attitude. I know you "get" that and don't really care, but how much more enjoyable would this forum be without the condescending remarks and tone. For instance, saying, "... I will simply say that is not a perfect specimen. If I point out things I see wrong I could be accused of bashing", does nothing but invite bashing and you're well aware of that. How wonderful would it have been if you instead said something like. "Great looking bike but I do see a couple of things that appear to be non-original for this model/year if the owner or anyone else on here cares to know." And then describe the inconsistencies. That's all. Simple, helpful, and non-combative.

For those who feel compelled to write a nasty comment on everything Chris says, maybe it's time to move on. We all understand that he brings some of that on himself at times, but just learn to ignore it. Waging war on here with him or anyone else does nothing but take the fun out of this forum for the rest of us on here who are trying to share their lifetime of knowledge, or like me, trying to absorb some of that experience and knowledge. Agree to disagree and go about your business and let the rest of us enjoy the site.

            Thanks for listening.

looks like nobody can win. 150 people look at a muffler with no answer to it's originality and that's bad. 150 look at a knuck and a few say what is not right and that's bad.sounds like an old story of a kid riding a mule as is father walked it to town or was the father riding the mule and the kid walked it to town.
when we communicate on the forum. we loose the perspective of body langue and facial gestures.in person to person talks many things are toned down by our subconscious movements.we just don't have that here.so things seem a little harsher. in the end we move on and bicker about something else.

The reason I said that and did not describe the errors I saw is because I was accused of bashing a bike when I point out errors. Funny that what I consider to be constructive criticism is considered bashing. If I said the bike has this and that wrong with it is b=not bashine in my opinion. If I said it was a piece of crap that would be bashing

This forum is just like any other social gathering. It takes awhile to get to know folks but believe me the knowledge is readily shared. Having said that, not every question posted gets an answer. Sometimes, it's just a matter of the people who viewed a particular thread just plain didn't know the answer. If you click on the index you can at any point in time see a few members online and a ton of guests. You may get a couple members who viewed your post and you may get a lot of guests who viewed the same post. The view tally goes up accordingly. Check out any major thread on the board and you will see that it may have thousands of views.

As far as Robbie is concerned, he can be very direct and to the point but if you ask a question and he reads the post and knows the answer( when it come to Harleys he usually does) you will get some of the most sound advice available. He has never steered me wrong and has been a wealth of info over the years with a few of my various projects. I would hardly call him a "hoarder of knowledge". Those of us who don't have the extensive knowledge that he does should be very thankful that he is willing to help as much as he does. I believe Eric is spot on with his analogy.

Rob (rwm) is also on the money with all of us sitting in front of an impersonal keyboard and that our words (with a lack of physical actions) may get interpreted differently by different people. When you spend enough time here you can read between the lines and personalities actually come out. Some folks are blunt and to the point, others are sarcastic in a good natured way (for the most part ) and we all gravitated here for basically the same reasons. You'll do fine here if your feathers don't ruffle easy. Give it a chance. You might find you'll learn something and like it as well. I've learned a lot here and always look forward to learning more.

Chris, there are times that you post a reply to a thread and I say to myself, "he's gonna hear about that one!" Some people just don't get you I guess. I personally believe that the "Curmudgeon" behind the keyboard is a nicer guy than the haters think. I also believe for the most part your intentions are good. I welcome your comments on what's right and wrong. But then again, I haven't had you rip one of my bikes apart! Even if you did I believe I could handle it. I think the key is not to give the impression that your bike is perfect or next to it. If it isn't, it's like alarm bells go off at the Haynes residence and and you start directing folks to the exits...

That was one great post Northwoods and you made a lot of good points. You've highlighted the basic problems here (and I'm not referring to you Chris..) The bickering can get a little old for sure but a healthy debate can sometimes prove positive. It's usually pretty easy to tell which direction it's going though. It was refreshing to see you pointing out simple solutions. The only problem though is this place can get like a bad classroom and the mood isn't stable enough for civility. That's just human nature I guess. It's been mentioned before that it's not only us that are reading this forum and what are outsiders to think? Maybe, before the the reply button is clicked, a re-read of a harsh comment could be scanned over just to see if it's really worth it. At the same time do we really want it too warm and fuzzy and sanitary? Sometimes it takes a little spark to get the flame goin' ya know...providing the fire doesn't get out of hand that is.....

                      Welcome back by the way...

Thanks, Cory. I too think Chris has a lot to contribute to this club and forum, but unfortunately he often says thing in a way that diminishes his value. I know he's intelligent enough to understand all that, and so do most people here, but he often ignores all that and says things in a way that he knows will piss people off. Apparently he must get some perverted sense of satisfaction from doing it. Then he gets upset when people respond to his words. Oh well.

I've just been through a year of great difficulty with my wife having been diagnosed with a very serious illness and will undergo treatment for the rest of her life - I sure as hell won't lose any sleep over Chris' words or anything else on here. The new perspective on life that her illness has given me is probably why I chose to comment in the first place. Life's too short, we should all learn to "play well with others". I agree with your comment about a good debate being healthy, but there comes a point where a debate turns into something much more offensive and destructive. Nuff said ....
