Does anyone need a 1912 Flying Merkel gas tank ? in nice cond. $3500 or trade, it maybe off the the 1912 New York Madison square gardens show bike because it's been nickel plated ? email for photos or call 530 305 6979

Many early motorcycles had their tanks nickle plated inside (and out) to prevent corrosion. They were then painted over. Maybe your paint has peeled off, or someone cleaned it off.

Merkel tanks were all brass. My '11 tank had obviously spent a lot of time outside but was still in good shape. I wish all of the motorcycle manufacturers of that day had made their tanks out of brass or copper.
