Don was very kind to me and a great help on my Sport Scout. There is no replacement part for people like Don. My deepest condolences to his family, and many friends.

I just heard of Don "Son of Howdy Doody"s passing yesterday. I always looked forward to his E-Christmas card every year I remember when he and "Zippy the Pinhead" Lawson started the Laughing Indian Riders some 45 years ago.. Seeing him on his OP Salisbury scooter at National road runs in the Evergreen state was always a hoot.We hoisted more pints of Ale than the law would allow. I will miss him dearly. The smile on his face and the twinkle in his eye. Down the road Don.

In 1981, not long after being invited to the local monthly meeting I became a member of the Classic Motorcycle Club of B.C., the west coast section of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group. I had a 1977 Triumph Bonneville 750 then and had an interest in finding something older. I think it was at the second club meeting after I had joined, a guy rode up on a 1948 Indian Chief and that is when I met Don for the first time. I had not seen anyone riding an Indian since college days and certainly not such a character of Irish lineage that he was! I decided then and there that I wanted a Chief. We soon became friends as he helped me try to find and Indian of my own, which was a success when I eventually acquired an unassembled '48 Chief and sidecar. I also joined the AMCA at this time. During these memorable times, I spent many a time at his Vancouver home getting to know him, drinking beer, and often laughing our selves silly. He was very knowledgeable and an appropriate character for leading the formation of a renewed Laughing Indian Riders club along with Al Lowson, myself, George Boutilier and others. He was very helpful to me in getting my Chief built and running and we had lots of good times in these early days of the club, including travelling to California AMCA Meets and other events.

I will remember the good times over more than fourty years and will miss him along with many others who knew him.
Rest in peace and Happy Indian Trails, Don

Don will be greatly missed, He touched the lives of so many people, especially Indian owners. It was Don who made an effort to memorialize the Laughing Indian Riders with Obituaries in the Club newsletters, a noble gesture for sure. I will miss him. Maybe a special edition in the coming edition. He deserves a special place in the Indian Riders Hall of Fame. He was a friend to all who knew him. Rest in Peace. C2K
