Sorry to hear about Rich Schultz death. He sure gave a lot back to our hobby, and particularly fellow Henderson lovers. Judging by his obituary, he crammed a lot of living into his long life. My deepest condolences to his family, and many friends, and acquaintances.

Condolences to Rich's family. I always enjoyed chatting to him at Davenport, particularly when he brought his original paint 1935 VL. I have signed copies of both editions of his Henderson books, which are packed with detail, particularly on the early bikes which I think were his favourites.

Rich was a wonderful man, and always a true gentleman! I had the pleasure of meeting him on the first DJ road run in 1984 and we became great friends. He encouraged me to write a book on Excelsior motorcycles, but I never felt I was capable of that, especially when looking at his wonderful Henderson books.

Rich was a dedicated enthusiast and probably did more to help the AMCA over the years than anyone I know. He was a true statesman for the hobby.

I'm proud to display my honorary membership in The Knights of the Brown Cotton Gloves fraternity, bestowed upon me by Sir Richard Schultz. Those other esteemed members will understand.......

Rest in peace my friend, and my condolences to his family.

Rich Schultz was a kind, soft spoken gentleman with a load of knowledge about Harley Davidson - particularly VLs, Hendersons, and Indian Fours, and more. He was the kind of guy who would come up to you and say Hi, and call you by name even if it had been a while since you last saw him. This was certainly true with me several years ago when he and his wife along with a few other AMCA "flat landers" came to British Columbia for our Orca Chapter "Island Hopper" Road Run from Vancouver to the Gulf Islands and on to Vancouver Island and back.
Like Gene, I first met him at an early Colorado Road Run. He remembered my name when I greeted him and thanked us repeatedly for the ferry riding fun they had and the motorcycle riding in between. Also, I think he appreciated that I had an Industrial Education degree which was part of his profession too.
May he rest in peace and enjoy happy trails in the hereafter. My condolences to his family and the many friends he made along the way.

My deepest condolences to Rich’s extended family. Rich always spoke kindly of his family and always mentioned the adventures he and his wife had over the years riding their sidecar rig all over the USA. I first met Rich when he was offering his first edition of his Henderson motorcycle book at an AMCA National Met (Davenport?) That meeting led to many phone conversations over the years where we discussed anything and everything but mostly AMCA and old motorcycles. Over the past 10 years I looked forward to our bi-monthly phone calls. This photo of Rich from one of his books is representative of the kind, unassuming gentleman that Rich was. He was 100% AMCA and had a vision that the Club needed to adapt to acceptance of all future motorcycles to survive as the premier club for the preservation of old motorcycles. Spag has hit the nail on the head about Rich. I had the pleasure of hosting Rich and his lovely wife Jane at our house back in 1991, when we hosted the first International AMCA Road Run up here in Manitoba, called the Great Canadian Buffalo Hunt. We met Rich over 40 years ago at Davenport and attending all the Le Mars National AMCA meets. He was the kingpin for those events. The Buffalo Chapter made Rich our first Honourary Life Member an honour bestowed to only 5 Americans over the last almost 40 years. I too, had the privilege to talk old motorcycles with him on a regular basis .Around 40 years ago my friend Siggy and I drove down to Le Mars, Iowa, for the first meet and they had a road run during the event. Rich asked if I brought a bike along and I said no, as we were in a hurry and both had to get back to Canada by Monday for work. He asked what my favourite ride was, I said," my 1936 VL sidecar outfit. He snapped his fingers and with in an hour there was a 1935 VL sidecar outfit delivered, that he said we could use. Man, he had quite the collection and his Henderson run of Detroits was legendary. He will be missed by all who knew him . My deepest condolences to the family. One more thing , he continued on AMCA road runs until 94 years of age ... WOW
