Dr. John F. "Doc" Patt, 83, Gilbertsville, died Thursday in
Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, where he was a patient for four days.
He was the husband of the late Virginia L. (DiCecca) Patt.
Born in Creston, Iowa, he was a son of the late Rosoce F. and Dorothy H.
(Haviland) Patt.
He was a 1939 graduate of Reading High School. He attended Albright College
for two years and then went to University of Pennsylvania School of
Veterinary Medicine, Philadelphia, where he earned a VMD.
Dr. Patt was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an army corporal for
the 66th Bomb Squad. He served as an airplane and engine mechanic for the B17s
and B29s.
He was the founder of Patt Veterinary Hospital in Gilberstville. He served
the Boyertown area as a large- and small-animal practitioner from 1952 to
1997.
Dr. Patt was a past president of Schuylkill Valley Veterinary Medical
Association. He was a member emeritus of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical
Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was a life
member
and patron of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. He was a chief judge
and the past president of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. He also was
internationally known as an authority on antique motorcycles.
He is survived by two sons, Donald A. Patt, husband of Sherry, Boyertown;
and Frederick S. Patt, husband of Corinne, Bowie, Md.; and two daughters, Dr.
Deborah S. Patt, Gilbertsville; and Phoebe N. (Patt) Kelleher, wife of Mark
J., Boyertown.
Other survivors include a sister, Dorothy H. Myatt, Connecticut; and a
brother, Ferriss H.H. Patt, Boyertown.
There are also two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Julia; and five grandsons:
Alexander, Jared, Michael, Ryan and Joe.
He was predeceased by a brother, William N. Patt.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist
Church, 611 Swamp Creek Road, New Berlinville, with the Rev. Matthew Heckman
officiating. Burial will be at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church Cemetery,
Colebrookdale Township. Relatives and friends will be received from 7 to 8:30
p.m. on Wednesday at the Morrell Funeral Home, 124 W. Philadelphia Ave.,
Boyertown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
