Elgia Sylvester LaGrow III, affectionately known to many as "Frog," passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on August 19, 1943, in Gypsum, California. Elgia spent his youth moving through Utah, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming with his hardworking mining family before settling in Boulder City, Nevada, in the 1980s. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Marion D. LaGrow, affectionately known as "Dede," who preceded him in death in March of 2022.
An extraordinary craftsman who genuinely loved his labor, Frog relocated to the area with his friend Gus to work on the Hoover Dam. He spent his career dedicating exceptional service to both the Hoover Dam—where he proudly shared stories of being lowered over the spillways to weld the gates—and the Nevada Test Site, forging deep, lifelong friendships at both locations. Frog was a passionate miner and mechanic. He could fix anything. His love for vintage motorbikes began in boyhood when he and his brother restored a field-found Doodle Bug scooter (which was beautifully, completely restored again just last month). In his retirement, he found immense joy, open roads, and great camaraderie as an active member of the Model T Club and the Antique Motorcycle Club. Above all, Frog loved everyone and everything; he was a master listener, a trusted confidant, and a true friend to all.
His greatest legacy is the massive, loving family he built. He is survived by his children: Elgia S. LaGrow IV, Michael Cal LaGrow, Daren, Kelly, Kristene, Shane, Charlie and Jennie Remine; and was a proud father to many more, including Jamie, Marsha, Zachary, Dale, Mikey, Elaine, Billy, and Cynthia. He also leaves behind a proud lineage of several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who carry forward his spirit of unconditional love.
Official Announcement:
A Celebration of Life for Elgia "Frog" LaGrow III will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The service will take place at 622 Saint Andrews Road, Henderson, NV 89015 (located at the former Black Mountain Country Club and Golf Course).
