  • 1952 K Model Muffler- Is this it?

I admittedly don't know much at all about early sportsters but I need a 1952 muffler for my k model. I saw this one on ebay under part # 65231-52A. I attached a picture. Is this waht I need for my 52 or is this a later one? If its not if someone couls send me dimensions of the one I need that would be well appreciated. Thanks and I appreciate it.

hmm...., only 13 years off, so hey with our new judging rules that would be period correct! just kidding, no politics!

          Parkerize,
The stock K Model muffler is long and similar shape on both ends. Looks a lot like a Big Twin muffler except the diameter is smaller. I'll try to get a picture of mine later.
That later style Sportster muffler was often called "Pencil Tip" due to the tapered shape.

Thanks Robbie, I never really had any sportster stuff except a chopped 70 xlh. All new to me. I picked up an original paint 52 k model and it has the wrong muffler so i thought i would find the right one for it. the length of your muffler tip to tip would also be great as well as whether there are any factory markings on it that i should look for (or a seam like the panhead cigar mufflers). thanks again for your help.

I thought I would offer it as it would be a good mount to an original unrestored K. The offer to trade for the Injun muffler was sort of tongue in cheek as finding a good used one year only muffler for a 39 would be as likely as winning the lottery. Truth is, the Chief is a bit of a mutt and the K muffler looks and sounds good on it.

Kyle I sent you a private message about the muffler yesterday. It is exactly what I need for my original paint 1960 XLH Sportster, which has the later 1960's OEM replacement muffler on it.

That looks like the later -65 muffler. If so I am interested in it.

Chris, the one on my 1960 picutred above is the the 65231-52A version of the K model/ Early Sportster muffler (65230-52 without the A suffix) for the 2 into one pipe. It looks very similar to the 65230-65 muffler, but it is about 5 inches longer. It is the OEM replacement for 65231-52 and it came out in 1966 I think. Is it the one you need or do you need the 65230-65's for the staggered dual exhaust?

I was looking for the staggered duals. Although that may be a nice muffler for my Knuck bobber with the Superior high pipe.
