Stock covers are painted black, not chromed.

Chris is correct about the color being black. I figured the silver one would show the shape better.

You should have said "Stock Covers IN CERTAIN YEARS are painted black". BUT at one point in time CHROME Covers were offered by H-D as an accessory item in H-D accessory catalogs. Maybe someone with a collection of different year accessory catalogs could tell us what year that was? And what year if any was the Battery Cover in chrome part of a chrome package?

There was no Chrome Accessory Group in 1946. Click the links below.

Hey numnutz (CH) who said anything about 1946? This is the PANHEAD section? C'mon Sparky wake up? You off you meds again? Or is it just being so close to 90 years old now you really have lost it? I'll go through it again for you, just like a little bit of community service for me helping a wayward senior citizen.
HERE WE GO again..... Instead of trying to be the "King Of One Liners" with one blanket statement about battery lids your original comment above SHOULD have read; "In the year you are asking about which is 1949, stock covers were painted black" but YOU DID NOT say that?????. So that is why I wrote what I did above so read it again. SO Mr Haynes your assignment today if you choose to accept it is to look through your collection of literature and enlighten the masses and tell us what year did H-D offer a CHROME accessory battery lid in their accessory catalogs? Do it early in the AM while you still have your BNM black/orange jammies on.

From what I see in the first edition of Palmers book page 618 in 1958 was a 66373-54 Chrome BATTERY Cover offered in the King Of the HWY Group. Prior to that year some groups offered an "oil tank AND battery cover" which I think is the full cover that even encircled the seat post? My question still is what YEAR was the chrome Battery "LID" itself offered in an original HD Accy catalog? THANKS, 46EL.

Sorry for the confusion. I mistakenly took your signature as the year you were questioning. So any questions you have about what is available I have many Factory Order Blanks on my web site.
