Any updated knowledge on subject matter? Are OEM tail light (base) gaskets: (a) not rubber (e.g., asbestos, paper, or felt?) for 39-46; or (b) rubber for 39-41 and not rubber for 42-46? Have seen conflicting claims. Sounds like many (other than Matt Olsen and 58panheadfan) have claimed not rubber for 39-46. See old S&S board discussion. H-D News Bulletin (Sept-41) notes rubber lens gaskets for 42. Palmer notes rubber lens gaskets for 39-41. Palmer discusses base gaskets (pictured and identified as "1939-1946" OEM and repop), but I didn't notice anything in Palmer as to material for base gaskets.
