The seal kit I got for my '36VLD had a new seal for the cam cover/pinion shaft. I don't have a part number, but I understand it is an updated rubber seal for an original cork seal. This seal is inside the cam cover cup which is removed to see the end of the pinion shaft and also houses spring 737-29. The note with the seal said to press into the original cup after turning 180 degrees. My question is which way do I face the wiper of the seal, toward the engine or away from the engine. It appears that the seal is just riding on the end of the pinion shaft and I would assume it should be further on the meat of the shaft. My follow up stupid question for first time VL builder is whether we are keeping oil into this little pocket to force down the pinion shaft, or keeping oil in the cam chest out of this little pocket. Any input or even pictures appreciated!
