    Steve!

    Cosmoline varied.
Please remember that Parkerizing prevents corrosion by its affinity for the petroleum derivative with a weak bond. And a chemical stain reflects light differently than a dirt or carbon stain. Most modern oils are relatively clear, and rarely reddish.

Warmth lets the waxy jelly penetrate and cover evenly; A paintbrush and vaseline in the hot summer sun is a great way to maintain parkerizing upon a machine in duty, although I am very very fond of a heatlamp and Johnson's Wax on the bench.

    And Parkerizing varied too.

I'm trying to learn. So cosmoline stains. Engine oil does not ?

After parts are taken from MgSO4 bath, is cosmoline applied with a brush only while part is hot ? Or can cosmoline be applied to a cold freshly parkerized part ?

    It stains it, Steve!

Its just one of the reasons why parkerizing should not match over a complete machine.

Cosmoline is basically a thick petrolatum, which is what I have used.

Steve, Us boys out here in the foothills of NorCal have been using cosmoline to finish our parkerizing for sometime now with great results. We capture it off NOS WW2 45 parts that are covered in it. Regards, Rich
