I wonder why the coil is standing vertical?

I thought everyone knew if you stood the coil on its side the extra electrons would fall out thus preventing overloading of the coil

my guess is that something in the modifications process was hitting the end of the coil - boy it seems common sense is just out of your grasp :-) :-)

That was the early Remy generator, often misidentified as a Mag/Dyno. They were used used with a different coil configuration on Excelsiors but were badged as Teagle, or Midco.

if you look close you can see the extended kicker arm,i use to have a better pic of the right side ,but its gone.notice the carb is on the right side as well as all the controls,but there are foot pedals in the car.

i've taken many a $20 bill from people betting i could start my 37 flat 80 with my hand. i rode it down to bike night at silverados last year in nashville and did it in front of 100 or more people and i'll be 60 on friday 17th. no compression releases either

this bike popped up on this forum a few years ago.was being auctioned off at the estate of a car collector out east.i had a friend go bid for me ,thinking maybe i could get it for around 30,but i guess everybody else showed up including the guys from harley,and it went for more than twice that.its a killer machine for sure.

I've seen this 1916 J before. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it was configured for a disabled WW1 vet who lost both legs. There was another 1916 J that was frequently photographed in the day that also was configured for a legless vet. and it had a sidecar on the sidecar for the man's dog.
