I wish I could say I still had it but it was "bung fodder" (as an old friend of mine used to say) for another deal. I forgot a funny part of the negotiation process. I kept telling the owner that I really didn't want the bike and that I already had 4 or 5 bikes that didn't run. He gave me that "What a moron" look and said, "With some gas, oil, and 2 hours of tinkering I could have the damn thing running, I can't do everything for you, Man."

This was a '47 Chief with a 1950 motor. I stumbled on this bike about 15 years ago. It was in a sleepy little town about 45 miles north of Orlando. I can't remember how I got the lead but I did check it out and sure enough it was real, contrary to 99% of the wild goose chases we find ourselves on. My first impression was disappointment mixed with disinterest. The guy wanted $5,000. I said no way and politely said thanks for the showing. I gave him my phone # and got a call as soon as I got home. The price was dropped a grand. I said no thanks. I'll cut through the tedium of phone calls that finally reduced the price to $1,750. At that price I couldn't refuse. I think the only reason I got this bike is because I didn't want it, which is often how life works.
