  • Racing in the Capitol City, 1910's

    After horse racing was banned in the District of Columbia in 1908, due to "shady" betting practices and pressure from the Temperance Movement, many tracks were converted to host motorcycle and automobile races. One such track was located in Benning, MD and saw a lot of action in the 1910's. I've included both motorcycle and automobiles in the grouping. I have to say that the motorcycles seem a little safer than the race cars of the day...
