Thanks Eric, the Harley Sport 37 cubic inch flat twin ran 1919-23 and was probably more successful as an export bike than in its home market, where the 1920-up Indian Scout was more familiar. I wrote a short book on the model last year, check vlheaven.com Website. It was probably conceived around 1915 and inspired by the British Douglas flat twin, but the post-WW1 market had changed a lot. With a roller bearing engine, 3 speed gearbox, totally enclosed rear chain and external flywheel, plus gear driven primary drive, it was arguably over-engineered and priced within a few percent of a Big Twin. Not only that, the Ford Model T was trying to make four wheels the same price as two so, despite a 25% price cut for the 1922 season, the following year was its last. It was then airbrushed out of Harley history as the new 1925 parts book excluded opposed twins.It was also Harley's first side valve model, so a lot of might-have-beens.

That looks like an early Harley Sport in #4165, so maybe late 1919.

Thanks for narrowing it down on vintage, Steve. I was not a fan of the Sport Twin, but as time has passed, I've learned to appreciate the appearance, and risk, and tech H-D put into them. You used to see them as basket cases, and as O.P. rollers at many of the earlier AMCA meets. Louie in Georgia has a beautiful survivor.
