Thanks, Bob, I could see that that series of pictures had a European look. I have often wondered if Schwinn had personal relationships with riders, and dealers in Germany and if there was a strong Excelsior presence in Germany. It would make sense as I'll bet many of his employees were German immigrants. Chicago was certainly the benefactor of the talented craftsmen that came from that part of the world.Originally posted by bobbyt View PostI believe the images in #2973 are from the movie Mit dem Motorrad uber den Wolken; it was German film that featured a trip to the Dolomites by bike. One of the featured machines was a Super X.Eric Smith

Eric, When I visited the Schwinn archives, which were then stored at the original downtown Arnold and Schwinn bicycle factory, in 1992 just before they tore down the Cortland St. original 1914 Excelsior factory I got to go through a lot of original files, paper work and blueprints. I found a lot of parts and rider instruction books in German. Some blueprints were for the dual back band brake (inner and outer) and other pieces required for European export machines. My friend Thomas Bund from Germany had a plate attached to his imported Super X that was required for export. RichDrSprocket

Great information, Rich. Always good to throw more knowledge into the well of Excelsior history.
