i know hardly little about these early twins, but this pic is interesting in that the engine is bicycle crank pedal start and the front fender has flat straps as seen on 1916 bikes and not the rods seen on 1915 bikes. Did 1916 have a model that was pedal start?Originally posted by duffeycycles View PostSteve Swan

1916 offered the pedal start option. H-D was probably hedging their bets on the new (for '16) step starter. According to Mark Masa, the '16 pedal start trans case was slightly different than the '15 case.Originally posted by Steve Swan View Post

Steve Swan,I think this is only 2nd or 3rd photo of a 1916 pedal trans bike that I have ever seen.It is a Cyko divided back postcard. The Cyko style is 1904-1920s.Divided back started in 1907 & most were pre 1918,so it is close to new bike in pic.Ebay seller charlesbridge, asking $125,,I think fair price for clear rare image. The original postcard in hand, may scan even clearer.I think there are more 1916 pedal transmissions known today than there were actual assembled bikes. Many have said all were sold overseas but I'm pretty sure this is a USA postcard.

Yes there was a pedal start HD in 1916. Transmission is similar to the 1915 but has differences. A friend of mine had one a couple of years ago. jerryOriginally posted by Steve Swan View Post
