    1953 FLE

Pete - I read yout thread and am interested in the fact that you have a 1953 FLE.

As we all know, FLE models were primarily intended for 'Traffic Use'. Police, parades, etc. Howevver, I am told that this model was also offered to civilians who wanted the tame temperment offered by the cam/carb combo.

As I am starting the restoration of my '53 FLE, this is importqnt to me. I REALLY do not want to build this bike as a police model and intend to make it a standard civilian-equiped machine.

Do you, or does anyone else know if my intention to build a civilian FLE is accurate, or will I loose points by doing so??

    Thanks !! Bill Pedalino

Bill, I have a '54 FLE that I am doing in civilian trim. From all I can find it was merely the de-tuned Fl available to all, including sidecar use. Most funeral escorts and other commercial users did not get police equipment but did order FLE's for economy and user friendliness, a term unknown but understood at the time! Robbie
