  • Yerba what?

"Yerba Buena, Spanish for "good herb", was the name applied to an aromatic little trailing vine, sometimes called California mint, and because it covered the slopes of the island, it is quite obvious why the island was so named."

**and because the Bay bridge crosses directly over it -as a footing. Yerba Buena Island.

---so there ya go Rick! I did my home work. The name has deeper roots than I previously thought.

Or sometimes it just translates into "good grass" ......due to the previous large goat population. Goat Island Chapter -doesn't have the same ring.

Ya gotta love the name! It always brings a smile to my face. Very funny.....
