  • John Deer motorcycles

Contrary to popular belief, they never built one.
Some folks are havin' a bit of fun.

    That is all......good evening.

    John Deere

I was told that there was only one piece of equipment that John Deere wouldn't stand behind.

    The manure spreader.

      Hi Cotton,
I have a semi-retired hay farmer and an ex-dairy farmer in the family. So don't get me started with the (really bad) farm jokes.

Here's some cross over a few guys may find funny.

      Log Off: Don't add wood.
Monitor: Keep an eye on the wood stove.
Download: Getting the firewood off the pickup.
Mega Hertz: When you're not careful downloading (watch the toes!)
Floppy Disk: What you get from piling too much wood.
RAM: The hydraulic thingy that makes the woodsplitter work.
Hard Drive: Getting home in mud season.
Prompt: What you wish the mail was in mud season.
Windows: What to shut when it's 30 below.
Screen: What you need for black fly season.
      Byte: What black flies do.
      Chip: What to munch on.
Micro Chip: What's left in the bag when the chips are gone.
Infrared: Where the leftovers go when Fred's around.
Modem: What you did to the hay fields.
      Dot Matrix: Farmer Matrix's wife.
Lap Top: Where little kids feel comfy.
Keyboard: Where you hang your keys.
      Software: Plastic eating utensils.
Mouse: What eats the horses' grain in the barn.
Main Frame: The part of the barn that holds the roof up.
      Port: Fancy wine.
      Enter: C'mon in!
Random Access Memory: You can't remember how much that new rifle cost
      when your wife asks.

An old pal of mine used to refer to his 50 H-D FL as a "Hogley-Ferguson" after the tractor company Massey-Ferguson. That was due to his bike's tractor-like performance. He geared it very low with a 3-speed/reverse tranny for winter 3rd-wheel use. One time we were out riding and his head-light burned out. He said: "Let's stop at that tractor dealership and see if they have a bulb that will fit." I said: "They won't." But danged -they did have one!

Somewhere I have a nice photo of him on that bike. Flat black with a stock spring fork.

Good stuff! Lets put that photo up.

I'd love to see an area or thread with a bunch of photos showing pictures of engines as found. Generator, belt drive, irrigation, lumber saw, washing machine, snow mobile.

Anybody else got some? This could be a good starting point for Professor Hecker reports. He needs material ya know.

Did anybody see the Harley "Farmboy" at Davenport a few years ago? John Deere colors and tractor wheels. Winters are long and cold in those parts.
