My rear shocks need replacing on my 66 FLHFB
What are the recommendations for original appearance replacements??

  • #2
1965-66 shocks are the same and the only ones that would have the original appearance.

The shocks have been unavailable since the middle 70s, finding a new set is going to be rough. Consider Progressive Suspension shocks.

Replacement in appearance or function? I rebuilt a pair not too long ago. Found the NOS covers on eBay and replaced the actual monroe or maybe Gabriel shocks inside the springs.

I ended up buying some "replica" units.
          I would prefer "original" items.
Could not find a supplier for the shock, Dou you have any more information on the items you purchased?
          Thanks,
          Warren.

I will look in my files to help you out. I was still able to get the shock, but had to weld the washer on the shock that was added by Harley. I was not sure of the finish of the exposed area of the bottom part of the shock so I used zinc, mine were all rust except for an exposed area. I know I have one nos cover, because I had to buy three. I also has a set of NOS caps with clamps for the top.

                          Hi again Ryan,
Is that third cover a genuine HD part, if it is would it be for sale? I could also be interested in the caps and clamps.
                          Cheers,

Yes, all parts are nos Harley. I will have to think a day or two on whether or not I want to get rid of them. Sorry, not a definite yes at this time.
