  • 55 K Model Hand Grips

Does anyone have information on how to install the spark advance and throttle to the handgrips for a K model sportster? We have the grip sleeves.

That all depends on the grips. Some may be too loose while others too tight. For loose grips build up the spiral with tape. For tight ones place the spirals in the freezer and lay the grips in the sun on hot blacktop till they are throughly heated. Then quickly shove them on. If you are lucky they wont split.

      Good info...but need service details

I talked to my rebuilder and they are really wanting the instructions to install the parts that make up the spark retard and throttle controls for the 55KH handgrips. I can't find any service manuals, but suspect it would be detailed there. While the parts manual has great pictures, it does not help to get from A to B. If anyone has the service procedures or knows where I can get a service manual, that would be great.

There is no such thing as a K/KH service manual. All the control parts are common to all the model range so any info on Big Twin controls or Sportster controls are the same as KH except for routing and length of cables. There are no Shop-Dopes covering that either. I would be a little skeptical of any builder who does not know how to assemble H-D controls as those parts are common on all models from '53 to the early '70s, a pretty wide time frame!
