How come the factory bike does not have a matched oil tank? Is it supposed to be unrestored?

        Eric.

Late 1937 had black oil tanks as standard.

            ELs AND ULs?

Perry- thanks for the photos. Pete- I didn't know about the black oil bag.

All- I should have specified EL in my original post. This is my 1st EL restoration. I know (think) the ELs and ULs shared the same paint schemes. Does that include the black oil bag on late year models?

1- Would an EL judge please confirm (what Pete wrote) that I should paint the oil bag on my late '37 EL black??? I would like to get it right the 1st time out! I believe you Pete, it's just that I haven't heard this before. And I certainly haven't been around the circuit enough to know for myself.

2- Do we have a correct paint code for the GOLD edging???

            thank you.

Late model '37's did indeed have black oil tanks. You can see this by looking at photos of bikes in the late 1937 Enthusiast magazines.
As for the true gold pinstriping I can't tell you were to find it. All I have been able to get for many years is a mustard gold color.

thanks Chris- John P of Colorwright recommends One Shot brand gold for the edging. Have you tried it?
