47 Springer,spring rod bushing

How do the spring rod bushing's install into the the frontend?
Does the long end of the bushing go towards the top of the springer?
It seams to fit best this way and the spring bushing retainer that i have has the wire guide on it. Palmer says this is not for 47. The Harley parts manual shows this type for the 47.

I had the same question at one time. There’s a hole in the bushing for the grease to pass though. Put that where the grease nipple is. If you have a later parts book it will show the latest part. Sucks don't it. Bob L
