Every horn is different. I'd start out at .015 -.020", and adjust from there.

          Diaphragm horn overhaul procedure

          Bobmac,

I have found this article very helpful for horn repair, http://www.ruiter.ca/mc/info/hornrep.html

I found myself fixing horns left and right after the first one. Suggestions, you will want it all buttonedup and installed to correctly adjust the tone. If not, as you start tweaking bolts it will change.

You will have to Thank Perry Ruiter as he is the author, not me.

Something like this would be a great addition to the Virtual Library, especially for newbies like me.

Now that's what I call a complete explanation, wow. Thanks to Perry Ruiter for putting it down in writing and thanks to Knotthed for posting it!

              Pisten Bully,

I didn't catch that you had resurrected an unanswered post from the dead, or I would have addressed my response to you.

Please let us know how it goes.

Well, armed with that very thorough write-up (thanks again) my horn is working again! For mine, I was fiddling with the points gap when really cleaning the points was the ticket. Beats buying another (I wanted the original plus they don't give them away, either!)
