  • 1969 Sportster paint?

Hi, I am currently restoring a 1969 xlch sportster. I have painted the tank and fenders in birch white, which was a standard color in 1969. Here is my question: the other 5 colors that were available in 1969 all came with a white tape pinstripe that ran around the decal on the gas tank, however, birch white would obviously not have a white pinstripe. So would my birch white tank get black tape pinstripe? I have be researching this without much luck, so I would appreciate any help that anyone could offer. Hopefully somone out there has a sales brochure from 1969 or some other kind of documentation that they could check. Or even better...an original paint 1969 XLCH in birch white! Thanks in advance for any help! Feel free to email me at my327vette@aol.com

I have posted a duplicate question in the paint forum with a PHOTO of a 69 xlch gas tank. Please refer to it as a reference.

I have 1969 brochure that showes in Jet Fire Orange W/White strip. The H-D book The Legend Beings Showes standard colors to be Black w/white strip and orange w/ strip . Birch White without strip. ALL have Black Wrinkle panels with decial. There is striping around black panels but can not remember if it was all part of a decal. My parts book does show part number for 69 decal ???

yes, all colors had the same decal...it was a textured black with silver (they called it chrome) trim around the outside. And the other 5 available colors that year had a white pinstripe. so i am just wondering if birch white bikes came with no pinstripe or possibly a black pinstripe. i have seen "white or black" pinstripes mentioned in other sources. my post under the paint forum shows a photo of an original paint tank.
      thanks!
