I asked the question the other day Fletcher and it is pretty minimal to the club. Since Keith Kizer has been here as Executive Director he indicated he had no record of an expense related to forum fee or licenses though I know they exist. Most of the work involved in our forum is volunteer with Jon Rachmacher as the web master of the forum and me as a forum moderator/admin. Jon does get paid for some work completed on the forum and that work is proposed to the Executive Director for approval. According to Frequently Asked Questions on the VBulletin site a single vBulletin Forum costs $195. I am not certain if that is the annual license upgrade cost? or a one time license. I assume an annual cost. We also need to pay for our domain name that is part of our internet address and we need to pay for a base home page site. I do not know exactly how much these costs are but as Chesapeake Chapter web site content coordinator I can tell you we pay under $500 per year for our DIY web site and the maintenance of our domain name. I will ask Jon what club finances are expended on the AMCA Community Forum.

I hate for this to be piece meal info and I will update with as much info as I obtain. I do know that we pay services to DreamHost which I assume are costs for a platform and server to have our forum facilitated from and we pay $38 per month for that annually that would be $456.

Mike: Thank you. Appreciate the response. The information you have already provided is helpful. Sounds like it may be possible to maintain a forum for less than $500,000 per year. But, I doubt it's apples to apples and I realize there are many issues and expenses we haven’t factored in.

Hey Buzz has NO PAY. So the other forum has been struck by "My funds are low virus " The online provider Im sure was on the NO PAY LIST , with the printer and subscribers , etc etc etc.

Buzz could have let someone take over the CAIMAG web site instead of letting it die.

I agree Chris. That was an awesome amount of history, and soul that flourished there. If I was Buzz, I'd be nervous at any biker gathering. I should add that Buzz really needs to tell his side of this, which I think people would give him the benefit of hearing of his decisions. I'm sure that experience was no fun for him.

i guess the "issue' i have about caimag's disappearance is no (or little) communication (at least that i am aware of) from buzz before, during and/or especially after the forum's relatively unexpected disappearance. nothing like an unexplained loss to show what something means to people that can reveal their sense of loss. a possible explanation is buzz is dead or has a life-changing health condition or his ego has been bruised. really impossible to know what's going on other than gossip and conjecture as a means to find some explanation or provide some sense of closure. buzz' forum tied in with his business adds a legal dimension i'm not aware of, seems a bit hard to believe that an "official" statement, no matter how vague or general couldn't be issued and that buz is somehow legally gagged from making a comment. on top of losing caimag forum, this sense of loss is heightened because there has been no followup since the forum was essentially kidnapped. i just can't imagine a rational reason why there is not at least an acknowledgment, no matter how general or how vague, just some sort of statement directly from buzz since he has been so talented at showing himself you-tubing his motorcycle related activities in the past. maybe we're feeling like jilted lovers losing the one and only buzz-love of our lives...

I find it equally as funny that someone who never participated except to try and cherry pick parts would be so offended? You and Buzz are cut from the same cloth, get over your self!

Doing my morning routine, Buzz is on another site selling something, so i left him this message:

"Good morning Buzz fwiw, fyi, there's been on rather long-lived thread that recently came back to life on the AMCA forum wondering if your CAIMAG forum is coming back? A number of fellows miss the site had dealer shops by "sidecar" and vintage pictures by "mr.big." They are feeling particularly let down because there has been no communication from you or anyone of the CAIMAG forum might return someday. If you could say something, it might bring some closure for these fellows."

Steve, I agree with everything you said in post #70 and glad you reached out to him. I wanted to comment in the past but with everyone loving that forum I held back. I was on there for quite a few years. I printed information (very valuable info from all the contributors), off of there that pertained to my needs, and am very glad to have done so over the years especially now that it is gone. I understand and appreciate that we all had the free ride and benefit of sharing knowledge while Buzz's company footed the bill. I also know warning was put out approx. several weeks before it shut down. But I do have to say that with all the time the members put in there, I feel it was pretty rude that Buzz didn't just make an announcement that things were ending, thanks for all the contributions, its been a great ride, etc. We know he is not shy, again it's great what he provided all those years, but pretty shitty to not at least make some kind of announcement of closure. Maybe more people could have down loaded pictures or saved info. Who knows what his personal issues are, glad he responded to the question you asked him. One day he'll probably show up here with another bike find posting a question which he'll never follow up on like he did over and over on his own forum. I don't agree with the way he closed the forum, but I am glad I was able to participate while it was alive.

Bob, agreed with your comments. at least buzz' reply gives us closure although probably not the kind of closure we hoped for... Buzz hosting a forum via caimag and buzz' numerous requests for and videos of himself will fit the reality of the recipient of what buzz projects. i'm glad the caimag forum was there when it was and grateful to get to know some of the members in that community. beyond that, at least for me, all things considered, how buzz went about promoting old bikes was what it was and his response is what it is. some may think his response within the boundaries of acceptable social decorum, all i know for sure is that is not how i would have handled the forum's demise, but then i am not buzz. giving buzz the benefit of doubt, maybe there were forces outside buzz' control so he could only go the way things turned out and the forum had to end the way it did. Really...? 'Nuf said.
