    The later assembly is an improvement, Otis!

    The staking tool has a 3/16" punch end that is countersunk for the 5/32" ball, pressing the ball below the casting, but not so far as to bottom the spring before the punch meets the casting.

    Great care must be taken to avoid smacking it too hard.
    Beware of wear to the shaft bore in the casting that may prevent a staked ball to effectively secure the detentes.

        Another note on staking detentes, Folks: Don't try it with a potmetal Schebler.
