Happy to see some of the "Vintage Pictures of the Day"... along with a few stories of yesteryear. Roger

I like Indian script and like the action in this photo with the bystander interest.

Sam Parriot as the rider in this photo in 1940 recorded 136.87 mph speed on dry lake Muroc (now known as Rogers Dry Lake) in Muroc (Mojave Desert) California, with a parallel valve engine. Paul Bigsby also pictured on the left.

Joan Jett. Not really vintage but I thought I'd throw it in.

When Royal Air Force Captain Charles "CK" Shepherd mustered out of the service at the end of WW1 he had that need to get going and do something. His choice of activity was to buy a 1919 Henderson MC, begin in New York City and drive across the USA to Los Angelos. Its a pretty amazing story of a road trip where in some cases there were no roads.

I read that book and it was really good! The book is called "Across America by Motorcycle".

                              • Yes it is a great book Jim. I like any books about a road trip on motorcycle. Yankee Chapter AMCA member Mark Hunnibal republished the book a couple of years ago on Amazon and was duplicating the trek on a rebuilt 1919 Henderson he had gotten from his father. Here is a link to Mark's story. Mark found it mechanically challenging on a 100 year motorcycle but he is a persistent guy so I think he will get it done. https://acrossamericabymotorcycle.com/

Another road trip I enjoyed was One Man Caravan by an amazing guy Robert Edison Fulton Jr who rode around the world. Great story.
