  • Questions about Carburetor Adjustment:

    Per Repair and Overhaul Manual

    Step 4.
Prime and start the engine and allow it to warm up.
When it is throughly warmed, check to make sure the
choke lever is raised to the open position.

    Step 5.
RETARD the spark control and adjust the low speed
needle valve by turning it to the right or left until
the engine fires evenly. Turning this valve to the right
(clockwise) gives a leaner mixture - turning to the left gives
    a richer mixture.

    Step 6.
To adjust the high speed needle valve open the throttle part way,
then turn the needle valve to the right clockwise until the motor
starts to stall. At this point reverse the direction and turn the
needle valve to the left until the engine runs at the fastest speed.

    Step 7.
Check the adjustment by RETARDING the spark and opening the throttle slowly.

    QUESTION 1:
When/where between Step 5 and Step 7 was the spark ADVANCED???

    QUESTION 2:
    Idle RPM 900 to 1000?

    QUESION 3:
In step SIX directed to "open the throttle part way"
    1/8 turn? 1/4 turn?? 1/3 turn???

    Thanks for any advice.

Enought to bring the motor speed up to maybe 1500-2k.You dont want to over rev iton the stand.

I've read that over and over for decades, Paul!

      It never worked.

Always tune at full advance, first for idle, and then the HS while cruising, and then repeat.
